We had a mom recently have her water break prematurely and after several weeks of hospitalization, Colleen was her labor doula. This is what she shared:

Colleen was a huge support to me during my labor. She helped my to cope with the contractions and offered just the right support for me at the right time. She was so calming and reassuring. She helped my believe that I could get through my labor, even when I doubted myself and I wanted to give up.  I really believe that all women should labor with a doula. The nurses and my midwife were in and out during labor, and Colleen was the constant presence I needed to get through my labor. I really and truly feel that I would not have been able to do it without her. She will always have a special place in my heart being apart of my birth story.

We are delighted that Colleen is a part of Labor of Love offering both labor and postpartum doula services.

Jenna hired us back when we were trying a new approach to doulaing as a team with the team of three of us sharing call. We no longer offer the team approach but continue to work together. We love it when we get letters like this!

Hi all! Barrett turns 1 today and I am so grateful to you all and the universe for getting us together. I took an offer from Jenni to have her help me with my birth story… I wrote it and she edited it beautifully. It is posted on her blog at Mamahhh.com.  Jenna’s story

But I also loved your blog for happy birth stories so I hope you feel you can post a link to it there as well. I loved hearing from your happy clients when I was pregnant. :)

I am reflecting today how grateful I am for Barrett’s amazing birth, in addition to your roles in it. Teresa our meeting was clearly meant to be! Our pre-natals were so special, and Pam you had such kind words for me that I will never forget. You all helped tremendously with my healing moving forward for this birth. Then Guina, you were spot-on on my birthing day… I hope you feel the story reflects all you did!

It is hard to stay connected in this crazy life, but I am so glad we have Facebook. I miss seeing you all and wish you all the best, always.

Thank you all again!!!

Love,
Jenna, Matt, Bodey and Barrett

I met Jenna ironically at the book signing of Jennifer ‘s Belly Button Bliss. My oldest daughter’s birth story where I got to catch her youngest daughter was one of the included stories. I sat near Jenna and shared with her the birth options that were available in Atlanta for her as a VBAC. We three, Pam Roe, Guina Bixler and myself were honored to help in her journey to a gentle birth. Thanks Jenna for sharing your kind words. Thanks Jennifer for your wonderful book and friendship with mothers seeking a gentle birth journey!

Hello ladies -
I would love to write you all a long e-mail, but motherhood is keeping me super busy. Brannon is taking a little cat nap right now and he is sure to wake up soon, hungry and wanting a good cuddle. I did want to at least take a few minutes to let you all three know that Jason and I are so grateful for the education and support that Labor of Love gave us through out this crazy - whirlwind journey. I know that our birth experience would not have been nearly as positive if we had not taken the class with Guina and didn’t have Renee there during Brannon’s birth.

Hey Melanie,

I just wanted to thank you for your help getting my placenta pills made.  They have made a dramatic difference (I can tell because my schedule is so nutty right now that I’ll forget to take them and then find myself an emotional puddle, then I recover quickly after taking one or two).

I also loved that you included the cord – I still marvel at it (it’s shrinking so fast!).

If there’s ever a need for a testimonial or to speak to someone who is considering your services about my great experiences, I’d be happy to.  Just let me know.

Best,

Brittany

Patti with a set of twins!

To Whom It May Concern,

I highly recommend Patti Shultz as a post-partum doula.  She helped me for a number of months after my first son, Jack, was born.  Her assistance, guidance, and support was invaluable.

Patti is exactly who you want by your side as a new mother.  She has a very sweet and nurturing demeanor that automatically puts you at ease.   As a new mother, I felt vulnerable and overwhelmed at times and Patti always knew exactly what to say to ease my concerns.  She was so encouraging and supportive and gave me the confidence I needed as a first-time mother.  She was always happy and willing to do whatever I needed help with at the time – whether it was someone to make me breakfast, help me with breastfeeding, or take care of Jack as I took a nap.  She was also very knowledgeable and would always go above and beyond to answer all my questions.  She always made herself available and would happily answer my questions whenever I would call her at random times.  I would wait for Patti to help me do certain things with Jack for the first time such as give him a bath, put him in a sling, or trim his nails.  She is wonderful with infants and would spend hours rocking, soothing and playing with Jack.

Having Patti by my side absolutely made me a better mother.  I always looked forward to having her come over and loved her company.  Her support, advice, and encouragement meant so much to me and I will always be so grateful for help.  If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

Best,

Elizabeth Elsbury

Recently I was able to attend a lovely birth. The mom labored at home and then arrived to the hospital actively pushing. I had been in contact with her by phone a few times earlier. She sounded calm and in total control. Later she told me she was mostly just being polite! She went from early labor to fast and furious while in the tub and headed straight in to be there less than a half hour before having her daughter in her arms! Here are some kind words she shared with me in an email:

I was so glad to have had you at my birth.  Aris and I have been chronicling what might have been different if it had not been for you.

  • No one else might have answered my questions about contraction length and coupling and I may have gone to the hospital sooner out of fear.
  • The attempt at belly dancing through contractions at home helped a bit and may have lined her up and helped her descend.
  • Since the cord was around her neck if I had been monitored more I may have had a c- section- ( the stitches aftermath is bad enough)
  • No one else told me what was happening during the birth- how to push more effectively, that she didn’t cry right away because of the cord and  the effects of a fast birth on a baby.
  • My milk came in the second day thanks to your help nursing immediately after her birth (it is just now less difficult to do this nursing thing- I had a great head start that I don’t believe the hospital would provide.)
  • I had the confidence to delay the bath, the vitamin K shot, the eye ointment.  We did these things the next day
  • We have great photos
  • we bathed her with the nurse privately and it was lovely not to mention educational- she explained to us as she did everything and I was able to see that Abbie was not distressed during these procedures.

I had a fantastic birth with no regrets.  Thanks again.  The support before the birth was just as important to me.
